A man was shot and killed by a car rental company owner who mistook his car for a burglar’s, a police spokesman said.
The shooting happened at about 2:45 a.m.
Sunday on the 700 block of Brossard Drive in Newmarket, a city of about 5,000 people about 30 kilometres northwest of Toronto, said Const.

The man who fired the shot, identified as a 40-year-old man, died from his injuries, Whitcomb said.
A search warrant has been executed at the man’s home, and Whitcomb was not able to provide further details, he said.
Police were investigating.
