In Hawaii, rental cars are the new high-end cars.
It’s a sign of a new era for the state’s transportation system, which has struggled to compete with the high cost of transportation options.
Car rental companies, including Next Car Rentals and Cars Hawaii, are among a group of companies that are offering a wide variety of car rental services to customers across the state.
One of those companies, Carlease, is offering rental cars at an affordable price.
Carlease CEO Chris Jankowski said the company is looking to expand its service to Hawaii.
“It’s really been a dream of ours for a long time,” Jankowsky said.
“We just think the future of Hawaii’s transportation is moving towards the car.”
Carlease is the nation’s second-largest rental car rental company, with more than 8,000 vehicles, and is based in Honolulu.
Its cars are rented in the city and the islands.
The company rents cars from local companies for up to 30 days at a time, Jankiewicz said.
It also operates a car leasing service that connects customers with leasing companies in Hawaii and beyond.
“I think we’re in a period where we’re really in a good position for our business,” he said.
Next Car, another rental car company, is focused on the islands, where it has about 5,000 cars and about 100 employees.
NextCar, based in Hawaii, has been leasing cars in Honolulu for a decade, Janksiks said.
The firm has more than 2,000 leased cars and employs about 150 people.
The cars are available for lease in a variety of models, ranging from the Honda Accord to the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, he said, noting that the cars can be picked up and dropped off at locations across the islands and the mainland.
Car leasing companies are a growing segment of the rental car industry, which grew about 9 percent to $2.6 billion last year.
But leasing companies aren’t just going to be making the move to Hawaii anytime soon.
In addition to Carlease and NextCar renting cars, CarRental, a company based in Florida, is expanding its fleet of rental vehicles, according to its website.
The move comes as rental car companies are trying to compete against other rental companies.
CarRentals customers in Hawaii are now looking at a range of options for car rentals, including the rental of leased cars from leasing companies.
“It’s a great way to diversify,” said Michael Lauer, vice president of leasing for CarRortech, a car rental service in Honolulu that is offering cars in Hawaii for rental.
“There are some great rental companies that have been around for a while.
You’re going to see some new names and names coming in.”
In addition, the Hawaii Department of Transportation is expanding the statewide fleet of cars it operates, allowing for more vehicles to be leased.
The department, which oversees rental cars, announced a change in policy last month that allows rental cars to be picked-up and dropped-off anywhere in the state at no charge.
The policy change also requires rental companies to notify customers when a car they rent is due for pickup.
For rental companies such as NextCar and Carlease to compete in the market, they need to reach a wider audience, said Jay Ralston, president of NextCar Hawaii.
“Our goal is to get as many customers as possible to ride with us, and that’s what we’re going after,” he added.
Ralstein said the companies are aiming to provide customers with the convenience and affordability of their rental car.
“They’re just getting started,” Ralsten said.
