A new app lets users rent cars in South African cities such as Laguardias and Shreveports, and to even get around in Taiwan.
The app, which was developed by CarRental, lets users choose from an array of car rental options, such as the Nissan LEAF, Toyota Prius Plug-In, BMW M5 or Audi A3, and pay a flat rate of $8 per month.
The system is designed to help those who want to get away for a weekend or weekday but are limited to one car or a car rental.
CarRentals head of customer experience, Rob Tynan, told The Irish News that it was a natural fit.
“We are looking for ways to give people the option of renting a car to get on the road,” he said.
“It is a great opportunity for young people to get to and from work, or for older people to go out to a night club.”
The app allows users to set their destination, and then it will auto-renew and let them choose when to pick up their car, Mr Tynans told TheIrishNews.
“The car is a part of the rental package.
It is not a separate vehicle.”
CarRents app is available for iOS and Android, with a further release planned for the first half of 2018.
Car rentals are an increasingly popular option for millennials and young professionals, as the average car rental price in South Australia is $1,900 a month, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
The average rental price is about $8,000 per year, according the ABC.
“People who are interested in renting a new car can do so, they can book a car and have it delivered to their door,” Mr Tysan said.
The Irish Business reported last year that rental car prices in South America are higher than in Ireland.
The US car rental industry has seen a boom in the last decade, with rents reaching $4.7 billion in 2017, according a report by TheCarRental.com.
